Bio: J.L. Powers was raised in Texas and the Southwest. Her first y.a. mystery novel, The Confessional, was published by Knopf in 2007. It explores school violence and racial tension on the U.S.-Mexico Border. Possible topics: I've spoken on a variety of topics, from history to religion to hiking, but specifically for writers, I have given talks on the personal creative writing process, how to write a query letter, and how to find an agent, and publicity/marketing. I'd love to do a talk on independent/small presses as I have written over a dozen articles on the topic. Fees: Negotiable
